Wolverhampton is a city located in the middle of the country with close connections to Birmingham, the city is very well kept, and the local people are very friendly. Wolverhampton is known for being a very cultured city and this is mainly due to the Shri Venkateswara Temple which is a Hindu Temple and one of the largest of its kind in Europe. There are also several theatres in the city, bringing a wealth of culture and the arts you have the Grand Theatre which seats over 1200 people and shows many West End productions as well as locally produced shows and events. With over 1 million leisure visitors every year, Wolverhampton is a prime spot in the middle of the country for tourists due to the friendly people and plethora of activities that you are able to do in the city.

Things to do in Wolverhampton


Wolverhampton is a great place to go shopping, with over 600 shops, bars, restaurants and cafes you will be sure to find an item you want or a great place to have a drink or food whilst you are shopping. There are two indoor shopping centres which both have the well-known retail brands as well as food courts offering you the complete shopping experience. There are indoor and outdoor markets in the city, the markets are where you will find hand made gifts, locally sourced food and vintage clothing plus much more. Once you have finished shopping and would like to see some live music, comedy or entertainment then head over to North Street where you will find the Civic and Wulfrun Halls, the halls host a wide range of events from comedy acts to renowned bands and classical music, Wolverhampton has it all. For those who enjoy a little more culture, the Light House Media Centre that is located on Chubb Street often hosts photography exhibitions, international film and animations festivals etc.

Sport in Wolverhampton


There are several leisure centres dotted around the city centre with most of them offering no joining fee for students. Horse Racing at Dunstall Park is a popular spot for students in Wolverhampton due to the great atmosphere and thrilling racing. Wolverhampton Wanderers FC are a professional football team that play at the Molineux Stadium, the stadium is known for having a great atmosphere and is a must for anyone living in Wolverhampton.

Escape Wolverhampton


Just a short 25-minute drive south-east is Birmingham, here you will find lots to do including a large shopping centre and several movie theatres. A short drive to the north of the city is Cannock Chase which is an activity centre which boasts forest pursuits ranging from bike and Segway rides to tree-top adventure trails.

Transport in Wolverhampton


Roughly a 15-minute drive east of the city is the M6 which connects Scotland all the way to the M1 in the South, the M6 also connects Wolverhampton to the rest of the national motorway network. You are able to get a direct train to Birmingham and from there you are able to get direct trains and coaches to all major cities in the UK. The HS2 will soon be in operation which connects London to the north which will make travelling up and down the country a lot quicker.
